Fly plaid

The Fly Plaid is a traditional part of formal Highland dress and an excellent accessory for completing a full kilt outfit. Worn over the shoulder, usually in the same tartan as the kilt, it creates a refined and distinctive look with strong roots in Scottish tradition.

The Fly Plaid is most often worn for formal occasions such as weddings, ceilidhs, clan gatherings, performances, dinners, graduations, and other ceremonial events where a classic Highland outfit deserves an extra touch of style.

Just like our traditional kilts, the Fly Plaid can be made in your chosen tartan from our sample range, or any other tartan you have in mind - e-mail us in case you don´t see your tartan in our sample list! Approximately 1.2 metres of fabric are used to make the plaid. It is sewn into pleats, so it is ready for immediate use. You can also choose the fringe finish – either standard or purled (twisted and knotted).

It is typically secured with a decorative brooch and serves as a striking visual feature that makes the whole outfit feel more complete and more ceremonial. If you want your kilt outfit to look truly formal, elegant, and unmistakably Scottish, the Fly Plaid is the perfect finishing detail.
