ABOUT THE MACDONALD CLAN ANCIENT TARTAN
MacDonald Clan Ancient is a vivid green and blue tartan with red checks and one of the oldest and best-known Scottish tartans. The clan descends from Donald, grandson of Somerled of the Isles, and is regarded as one of the most powerful and influential clans in Scottish history.

The Lords of the Isles ruled vast territories as almost independent princes. Clan MacDonald supported Robert the Bruce in his fight for independence, but their claim to the Earldom of Ross later brought them into conflict with the Crown.
