Basket-hilted sword kilt pin
The basket-hilted sword descended from the famous but much larger Claymore. The Scots retained a solid blade and added a substantial basket to protect the hand. This one-handed weapon was also called the claidheamh beag, or “small sword” – a modest name for a decidedly confident design.
The sword became closely associated with Highlanders during the Jacobite risings and was later adopted by officers of Scottish regiments in the British Army.
The pin is hand cast in pewter, plated in antique silver and finished in Glasgow. Attach it only to the front apron, where it adds weight to the fabric and a generous dose of history to your outfit.
