Claymore kilt pin – a great sword in miniature
The Claymore, from the Gaelic claidheamh-mòr or “great sword”, is one of Scotland's most famous weapons. This heavy two-handed sword with forward-sloping quillons was favoured in the Highlands from the later Middle Ages into the late 17th century.
The miniature preserves the distinctive Claymore silhouette, including quatrefoil tips to the guard. It is hand-finished in pewter, plated in antique silver and made in a Glasgow workshop.
Attach it only to the front apron, where it adds useful weight and doubles as a striking piece of jewellery. At 10.4 cm it is larger than most kilt pins – then again, the Claymore was never famous for modest dimensions.
